December 15
In order to preserve the Turkish language—which brings together millions of people living across different geographies—as our shared cultural and collective memory heritage, 15 December was declared “World Turkic Language Family Day” at the 43rd General Conference of UNESCO, held on 3 November 2025 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
This meaningful day, proposed by Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan and adopted by a decision with the participation of 26 countries, represents an important step toward the protection of the Turkic language, its transmission to future generations, and the strengthening of its visibility at the international level.
While World Turkic Language Family Day reminds us of the universal value and richness of our language, it should also enhance our shared sensitivity toward linguistic unity and foster greater awareness of preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the Turkic language.
On the occasion of this special day, we respectfully commemorate all Turkic-language advocates, writers, and poets who have devoted their efforts to the Turkish language throughout history and contributed to the development of our collective memory.
