November 10
While preparing the speech he would deliver to the enthusiastic crowd during the 10th Anniversary celebrations of our Republic on 29 October 1933, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk expressed the following words in his written text:
“I have no doubt that the great civilizational character and capacity of the Turkish nation, long forgotten, will, through its future development, rise like a new sun on the high horizon of civilization.”
“On the day these words prove to be true, my wish of you and of all civilized humanity is this: Remember me.”
Later, Mustafa Kemal penned his final lines once again:
“On the day these words prove to be true, my wish of you and of all civilized humanity is this:
Remember me.”
Replacing the phrase “Remember me…”, he added the following lines to his speech:
“Turkish Nation!
With every passing decade flowing into eternity, I sincerely wish that you celebrate this great national holiday with even greater honor, happiness, peace, and prosperity.”
We commemorate Mustafa Kemal Atatürk with respect, longing, and gratitude, in the very manner he envisioned.
